Breeding Koi Carp Fish: Stuff You Will need To Keep in mind
The first thing you are going to have to do when breeding koi is to actual control the breeding. You have to balance the number of females and males to correctly do this. You don’t want too many males as they can hurt the female during breeding time. Rather than thinking about building a smaller koi pond for koi breeding, you should use a smaller container. A fish tank for example would be great to have control over the breeding.
The next thing you need to think about is managing the temperature of the water. Koi fish come from a warm habitat, and it is very warm out there during times of breeding. Therefore, you do not want the water to be too cold during the spring and summer months. You can manage the temperature using a thermometer and using a tank temperature control unit.
Whenever you are doing koi breeding and the process beings, you must be prepared to make sure the eggs lain by females are secure. If the eggs become scattered about randomly in the fish tank, other koi fish will take it as food. In this situation, it is best to use a spawning mop. This fabric it intertwined together and is laid on top of the water. Female koi fish will see this as plant life and will then lay their eggs on it for collection.
Remember to feed the koi plenty of food. Pet stores have an abundance of fish food, so buy some worms and stick to a regular feeding schedule. Once you have snatched up the eggs it is time to put them over into another tank that is safe and habitable.
It only takes about a week for koi fish eggs to hatch. Now it is time to visit the pet store again to find out what baby koi eat. They will usually have a powder like food which is basically grinded up seafood. To grow up healthy, the fish will need to be fed multiple times a day. Do not forget to do this!
To conclude, breeding koi does not have to be hard as long as you understand what needs done. Make sure you prepare everything beforehand to make sure all goes well. The joy you will receive from breeding koi is surely worth the work. As a final tip, make sure you write down a plan and follow it through.
